About HUG

...

In 1993, when I still lived in England, working as a nurse in a Hospice, a notice appeared in the dining room with the title, "Hello, my name is Danny", with a photo of a gorgeous white and brindle greyhound. Long story short time: I adopted Danny, brought him here when I moved to Ireland and was shocked by peoples' reactions to him. As to, why would anyone have a greyhound if they didn't race or course him?

Fast forward to 2002 when I founded my own greyhound rescue to counteract those attitudes and to finding loving, family homes for greyhounds discarded from the industry. Over the last 20 years we have found homes for several thousand greyhounds, both here in Ireland and abroad and I'm delighted to see that the attitude to these gentle souls is at last beginning to become more positive towards them as family pets.

Please check out the Homes For Unwanted Greyhounds website and Facebook page for more information, to help with a donation or to look into becoming a volunteer for HUG. Thank you 🙂
